Bare Bones

Whether it be Cheryl Strayed's story of self-improvement via hellish exercise in Wild, or our story of telling ourselves we will improve via hellish exercise (one of us is training for a half marathon at the moment, so we’re part of the way there), we’re suckers for tales of overcoming the odds to improve. In the fashion industry, the odds are the traditional, opaque, production system, and overcoming them is hard.

Enter Bare Bones, the label by New Zealand designer Lizzie Turner. Lizzie cares about the circumstances under which her clothes are made, and, when her producers at the time became opaque with the information they would share with her, Lizzie went in search of producers she could trust to provide safe and legal working conditions. She found them, too, next-levelling her ethical chops at the same time: Bare Bones is now both certified fair trade and certified organic.
