How To Build A Sustainable Capsule Wardrobe

The Project 1 Jeans.

Single use plastics pervade our lives at all levels – from our supermarket aisles, to our wardrobes. And, as a result, 83% of tap water is now contaminated with plastic fibres, while the vast majority of human-made materials found on our shorelines come from man-made clothing materials, like nylon and acrylic. It's little wonder, then, that plastic is now strangling our planet.

Considering these man-made plastics can take up to 200 years to break down in the environment, it's clear that we need to divert some of these fibres out of our ecosystems and start doing our bit to shop more sustainably. Fortunately, many well-made brands are now innovating with sustainable alternatives.

So below, we're building a sustainable capsule wardrobe, to help you be sustainable from head to toe.

1) Modal lingerie

The Full Cup Bra and High Waisted Brief.

This Nico set is made from certified Lenzing Modal, which is produced exclusively using Beechwood from sustainable forestry plantations.

2) The organic cotton tee

The Single Use Bag Tee.

Kowtow’s Single Use Bag tee is crafted from organic cotton, with proceeds going towards ocean charities Sustainable Coastlines (NZ) and Take 3 for the Sea (AU).

3) The sustainable sweater

The Cropped Retro Rib Sweater.

Nagnata’s 100% organic cotton sweaters are constructed as a fully-fashioned knitwear garment, which eliminates yarn wastage.

4) A recycled cotton bag

The Duck Bag.

Baggu’s recycled cotton bags are made from upcycled pre-consumer waste, which makes them much kinder on the planet than your average plastic bag.

5) The hemp jeans

The Project 1 Jeans.

Hemp jeans are better jeans because hemp doesn’t require pesticides or insecticides to grow, it uses 50% less water and returns 60% of the nutrients back to the soil.

6) Sustainable sneakers

The Wata Canvas.

Sustainable shoes are hard to find, which is why we love Veja sneakers – which are made from organic cotton and wild rubber.
