ICYMI, Sir David Attenborough recently joined Instagram. And he has also just released a new Netflix show called David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet. So, to celebrate, a glittering cast of celebrities – including singer Billie Eilish and Sex Education actress Trish Allison – have taken to YouTube to ask the wildlife presenter what we can do to help save the planet.

“It’s shocking to know that areas the size of a football field are being lost every second,” says Football player Marcus Rashford, for example. “My question to you is what’s causing our forests to be cut down and how can we save them?” To which Attenborough says that trees and forests are very vulnerable and also “very tempting to people who want to make a quick buck, because they are easy money.”

With this in mind, he says “we are responsible [for] what we buy”. He also advises us to waste less. “Don’t waste food, don’t waste electricity,” Attenborough says. “Look after the natural world. It’s the most precious thing we have, and we are a part of it.”

The 94-year-old wildlife broadcaster also proved that he is just a human being like the rest of us, after all, when Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams asked him how he has stayed connected to nature during lockdown. “I’ve been spending more time in garden and realising what riches there are” he says. “There’s so much that you realise that you’ve never actually looked at before.”
