This particular recipe calls for the freshness of lemon and thyme, but can also incorporate other natural ingredients like cinnamon, cloves, or any herbs that you have on hand.

The base is vinegar, which has natural cleansing and disinfecting benefits. And to use it, you just spray onto countertops, sinks and toilets, then wipe down with a wet rag.

Here’s how to make your very own DIY cleaning spray, in six simple steps.

Peel the lemons and mix with sprigs of thyme in a jar. You can substitute here for other garden ingredients like oranges peels, eucalyptus leaves, or lavender

Add distilled vinegar and infuse in a sunny spot for two weeks

After infusing, strain out the solids from the vinegar and discard them

Pour 1/2 cup of the infused vinegar into a spray bottle

Add 2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of Castile soap and 35 drops of lemon essential oil to the spray bottle

Swirl the ingredients together
