Swedish furniture giant IKEA has just teamed up with RSPCA NSW to launch a new take-back program that will help to minimise textile waste, while also benefitting animals in need. With Australians sending 85% of textiles to landfill, bedding is an important part of this problem. So it’s good to see a major corporation doing something responsible with that waste – especially if it benefits our furry little friends as well.

To take part in this recycling initiative, all you have to do is drop your old bed sheets or doonas off to the IKEA Tempe store between July 6 and July 14. From there, your pre-loved bedding will be repurposed into pet beds and distributed to RSPCA shelters right across New South Wales.

In addition to this, IKEA is donating $10,000 to the RSPCA through its Family Donations initiative. And if you’re looking to make a more permanent impact on an animal’s life, then you can also go along to one of their pet adoption days. IKEA Tempe will be hosting pet adoption days on Saturday July 6 and Thursday July 11, so you can provide a home to animals in need as well.
