Red carpet dressing can be pretty wasteful. Not only are these gowns generally produced just for that occasion, but celebrities are also openly criticised if seen wearing the same thing twice. Which is inherently unsustainable. Enter Jennifer Aniston’s outfit for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) 2020, which gives life to sustainable red carpet dressing.

At Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for the SAG Awards last week, Aniston wore a vintage gown by John Galliano for Dior. According to Refinery 29, the white silk bias-cut dress was actually pulled from the actress’ own closet, too. “This is a vintage John Galliano for Christian Dior, that is mine,” she told Access Hollywood. “I have a little collection of you know, the oldies but goodies.”

The 50-year-old actress won a SAG Award for her role in The Morning Show series. Right afterwards, she had an emotional reunion with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. But our favourite moment of the night was Jen putting secondhand fashion on the map as a more sustainable alternative to conventional red carpet dressing.

“This is a vintage dress that I sort of gave to myself as a present,” she revealed. “[It’s] an investment.” Not just for her wardrobe, either, but for the future of fashion as well. So here’s to many more Green Carpet choices by our fave celebs this awards season.
