This week is Refugee Week 2020 and The Social Outfit is commemorating the occasion with Wear The Change – an outfit repeating challenge and campaign. The Social Outfit describes itself as “an independently-accredited, ethical trading social enterprise that provides employment and training in the fashion industry to people from refugee and new migrant communities in clothing production, retail, design and marketing.”

According to The Social Outfit, their #WearTheChange2020 ethical fashion styling challenge calls for outfit repeaters to wear the same garment every day, styled in five different ways, from June 15-19. This initiative “raises funds for The Social Outfit’s non-profit community programs supporting women from refugee and new migrant backgrounds with training and employment pathways in the fashion industry,” says The Social Outfit.

The campaign has already been joined by outfit repeaters like journalist Annabel Crabb and researcher Rebecca Huntley, along with many others who have generously donated to the cause. So this week, we are getting involved with Refugee Week by following @thesocialoutfit on Instagram and donating to our favourite outfit repeaters.

After all, extending the lifecycle of our clothes by just nine months has been shown to reduce carbon, water and waste footprints by around 20-30%. And knowing where our clothes come from is an important step towards more responsible consumption. So this seems like as good a time as any to shop where it counts, actively outfit repeat, and support those who are doing the same this Refugee Week.

You can follow The Social Outfit here and donate to their important cause over here.
