Protecting women’s rights is arguably more important now than it has ever been, and the fashion industry has a huge amount of power to effect positive change here.

Which is why we're hosting an event as part of Virgin Australia Fashion Festival 2017. Introducing A Good Evening: How Fashion Can Empower Women. We hope you can join us!

A Good Evening is just that: an evening of good (read: excellent, because they’re by 42Below) complimentary cocktails, canapés and conversation (we promise, despite the seriousness of the topic, there will be lots of nerdy fashion jokes) with fashion industry professionals.

Sigrid McCarthy, media and communications coordinator at
Ethical Clothing Australia will discuss the importance of fair working conditions in empowering women; Clare Press, renowned Australian fashion journalist, will discuss how the fashion media represents women today, and how it can be better; Kristy Barber, founder and designer of Kuwaii, will muse on her design and patternmaking process including the emphasis she places on the importance of designing for all women’s bodies; and Jeff Ward, co-founder of ethical producers, Freeset, will run us through what ethical production means, and how women can be empowered by fashion in the developing world.

A Good Evening isn’t just all talk though, it’s action, too. Freeset’s employees are women who have been saved from sex slavery in Kolkata, and the company is currently working on its Gateway Program: a building at the entrance to the red-light district which will provide healthcare, accommodation and support to women still trapped in the sex slavery industry. We have teamed up with Freeset for a Good Evening: we have created a gender equal tote bag with Freeset and artist Caroline Walls, which attendees will get for free with their ticket, and which we’re selling on Well Made Clothes now, in the lead-up to International Women’s Day, taking place on March 8th, 2017.

ALL PROFITS FROM TICKETS AND TOTE BAG SALES WILL BE DONATED TO FREESET’S GATEWAY PROGRAM, which we couldn't be prouder to support.

A Good Evening is presented by Well Made Clothes and Ethical Clothing Australia, supported by Kuwaii, and sponsored by 42Below.

Tickets are on sale from Moshtix (and very limited, and taking place at the beautiful, intimate, Sunmoth). Earlybird double passes available until Sunday, February 12th, at midnight. Standard single tickets available now, too. We hope to see you there!
