Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic of conversation for fashion producers and consumers alike today, so now the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is making this the subject of its latest fashion exhibition in London. Running from April 21 next year, this exhibition will look at the influence that designers continue to draw from the natural world and interrogate just how much the industry cares about the planet beyond pretty floral prints. Fashioned from Nature will reportedly trace the relationship between fashion and the natural world, from back as far as the 1600s until the present day.

Set to showcase examples of beautiful, nature-inspired designs, as well as those incorporating ethical practices, the exhibition will feature now-renowned garments such as Emma Watson’s 2016 Met Ball ensemble by Calvin Klein – which was constructed entirely out of recycled plastic bottles. Fashioned from Nation will also shine a light on progressive designers such as Vivienne Westwood, alongside important social and environmental campaigns like Fashion Revolution.

To add to the conversation, however, the V&A’s latest fashion exhibition will also include somewhat more controversial pieces, including corsets made out of whalebone. These garments will stand as an example of those practices that we need to move away from, while the more innovative sustainable inclusions will provide cases for ways that we can do just that. Fashioned from Nature is sponsored by sponsored by the European Confederation of Flax and Hemp and will run for a pretty lengthy timeframe between April 21 2018 to January 27 2019. Definitely a must-see if you're in that part of the world.
