Luxury fashion is notoriously impervious to radical change, which means that sustainable innovation is unfortunately still the exception rather than the rule in this space. But now Y/Project’s Glenn Martens and Honest By’s Bruno Pieters are determined to change all that, with the launch of a six-strong capsule of re-imagined seasonless and gender-free fashion items.

Reworking Y/Project pieces from the spring-summer 2017 and fall-winter 2017 collections, this capsule features styles that are highly versatile for everyday dressing – including a trench coat, striped shirt and articulated jeans. Led by the Belgian designer and Royal Academy of Antwerp graduate Glenn Martens, Parisian brand Y/Project is known for its progressive nature, design-wise. Meanwhile, Honest By has made a name for itself as a 100% transparent company. So together the two companies make a compelling case for more forward-thinking design for the future.

Produced entirely in France, the duo’s collaborative capsule collection is made to the Global Organic Textile Standard and every element – from the fabrics through to the finishings – is traceable back to the origin. “There’s a lot of talk about sustainability these days,” Pieters told Vogue over the phone from Antwerp, “but it means nothing without transparency.” This focus on transparency is fantastic to see in the field of luxury fashion, where the charm and versatility of this particular collection is likely to inspire more ethical innovation over the coming years.
